Eligibility
Étoile Forum provides a supportive competition and masterclass platform for young ballet performers. Participants are grouped by age so that dancers can take part in an appropriate and encouraging environment.
Participants must be within the stated age group on the competition date. Entry details, deadlines and final arrangements may be confirmed nearer to the event.
Event structure
Performances and masterclasses are designed to give dancers a professional, organised and inspiring event experience. The event has previously been planned around The Richard Burton Theatre, with separate masterclass and solo performance sessions for each age group.
Juniors
Masterclass followed by solo performances.
Intermediates
A longer masterclass and performance opportunity for developing dancers.
Seniors
A vocational-style platform for older and more experienced students.
Performance guidance
- The performance should be a ballet solo.
- Repertoire should be chosen from reputable and well-known ballets.
- Performances should not exceed 3 minutes.
- Costumes should suit the character, story and style of the chosen piece.
- Props should be minimal and approved in advance.
Music submission
Music should be submitted in a high-quality format such as MP3 or WAV. Files should be clearly named with the child’s full name and the name of the dance, helping the team organise the event smoothly and reduce performance-day delays.
Judging and presentation
Performances are assessed on a combination of technical skill, interpretation, expression, stage presence, musicality and overall presentation. The aim is to give dancers a positive experience that supports their future development.
Photography, video and consent
Parents or legal guardians may be asked to provide consent for a child’s image, likeness or recorded performance to be used in connection with the event. Photography and filming arrangements will be communicated clearly so families understand how images and recordings may be used.
